Uphill walk from Catchpool carpark to Cattle Ridge Track

Butcher track is marked with a wooden post about 500 metres from the top Catchpool carpark along the Catchpool track. From there the track follows a stream with a steady uphill climb, until it reaches a wooden post marking the Cattle Ridge Track going off to the left (east) along the ridge (it does join, although I haven't mapped it). Allow about 30 minutes to walk up from the main track to the Cattle Ridge Track.

If you go right instead of left on to the Cattle Ridge track, you will join up with the Catchpool South loop. Great views, but the exit is at the road entrance to Catchpool 2 km from the car park so it is quite a long loop walk.

Catchpool is on the Coast Road about 12 km south of Wainuiomata. There is a large carpark with toilets at the end of the road about 1.5 km from the entrance.

The gates to Catchpool open at 8 am, and close at dusk (the time varies through the year and is posted at the gate and at the top carpark).
