Short bush walk in Tawa

Tucked away in the back streets of Tawa, this is a short loop walk with several seats including one with views across Tawa to Colonial Knob. An information sign at the start provides historical information about the walk. The track is good, but the bush is quite dense and it can be dark on a cloudy day. Some uphill walking is required, but you should complete the loop circuit in about 15 minutes.

At the top of the loop there is an new (but not yet signposted) Bing Mexted track leading up the hill to Bing Lucas Reservoir. This extension is still being developed by Friends of Tawa Bush Reserves with assistance also from the Lions Club of Tawa.

There is a forming track leading off beside a stream near a bench seat on the main track. This is used by possum trappers, and is not intended for public use as it becomes steep and slippery in places.

Getting there

Heading north along the Main Road through Tawa, turn right at the roundabout into Linden Avenue and continue along the road as it turns in to Collins Avenue. The reserve is signposted on the left just before the road turns sharply to the right and becomes Woodman Drive.
