Description
This is an anglers access track along the south bank of Otaki river from SH1 to the beach. On the south side of the bridge there is a sign clearly stating anglers access, and a style over the fence. There are several locked gates to pass through - walkers can cross easily but cyclists will need to lift the bicycle over the gate or fence. The first locked gate is about 1.8 km from the bridge, and the second locked gate a further 1 km.
This is a 4WD track, grassy in places, which turns to stones and gravel as you approach the beach. The track passes several bachs near the beach end and diverges into several disparate tracks leading to the river mouth.
This can be a popular spot for fishermen and other water activities, so watch out for vehicles especially near the beach.
Getting there
Parking is easiest on the south side of the bridge on the inland side, where there are toilets and a rest area. Rather than crossing SH1 it is possible to walk under the bridge to the start of the track.
