This track follows the Orongorongo river upstream from the bridge where the main track from the Catchpool carpark meets the river. It is normally a pleasant walk along the riverbank above the river, and is the better route after rain when the river is high. It is generally an easy walk, but is currently overgrown in a few area (check trip reports). There are huts along the river bank. Allow an hour for the walk.

When the water levels are low it is slightly quicker to walk along the riverbed.

From the top carpark in Catchpool recreation area, take the main track to the river and then continue along the track upstream.

Keep dogs on a leash to avoid a messy encounter with Kiwis.
