Description

From the centre of Oban walk inland along the Main Road and take the right-hand fork of Kaipipi Road about 1 km inland (the left hand road goes to the airstrip). You will go past the heliport. Continue along the road until it ends. At this point the Fern Gully track continues for about 1.5 km following a stream in the bush. It terminates at a small clearing with a seat and could be a pleasant spot for a picnic. Return along the same route

At the end of Kaipipi Road the left hand 4WD track is the track to Ryan's Creek and Kaipipi Bay. The part of the track marked on the map below marks the portion to the junction of the Ryan's Creek and Kaipipi Bay tracks. (The Kaipipi Bay track becomes the 2 - 3 day 36 km Rakiura track which loops round inland and joins up back at Lee Bay Road (see Horseshoe Bay).

Allow 1.5 hours for the round trip.
