Nydia Bay
Name
Nydia Bay
Location
Nydia Bay, Marlborough, New Zealand
Overview
Technically challenging singletrack with wonderful scenary. 5 to 10 hours to ride from West to East. The distance is less than 30km and you descend about 1150m and climb about 750m. Don't be deceived by the numbers, it is a big day out. This is one of my favourite rides in New Zealand. Highly recommended as long as you have the technical skills and fitness to enjoy it!

Description
There is a large shuttle required to get from one end of this track to the other. Well worth bribing or paying someone to drop you off and pick you up! Start from Opouri Saddle and finish at Kaiuma Bay. Ride description, write up and photos over on my blog http://mountainbikingzane.wordpress.com/2010/01/14/nydia-bay-boxing-day/
Getting there
To get to the start, drive from Havelock towards Nelson. Take the French Pass turn off and turn right over the bridge to head towards Duncan Bay. Stop at Opouri Saddle and look for the track heading from the saddle down to Duncan Bay. To get to end, driving from Havelock, go past the Trout Hotel at Canvastown. There is a right hand turn over a single lane bridge over the Pelorus river which will get you onto Kaiuma Bay Rd. Drive the many windy km to almost the end of the road. There is a small one lane bridge over a river in farmland which is close to where the track comes out.
