Instead of heading right up the Airstrip track you can go left along the fenceline for a few hundred metres, with good views over Tawa and across to Churton Park. The track is unmarked but well formed, being used primarily for pest control.

Go up the Airstrip track and turn left when you emerge from the bush at the fenceline.
