Description
There are many trails in Karori Sanctuary, but this show the main route from the visitor centre past the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir, discovery centre and lookout. There are good views here, and binoculars are provided to scan the dams and surrounding hillsides. There is plenty of interest along the way with Weta hotels, bird displays and Kaka bird feeders.
From the upper dam you can walk round the lake clockwise or anti-clockwise. Tracks lead off to the Sanctuary Fenceline.
Please note that this is a walking track only. For walking or mountain biking see the Fenceline.
Getting there
Turn off Chaytor St just past the Karori tunnell on to Waiapu Road. This no-exit road terminates at the Karori Sanctuary, where there is a car park.
Other notes
An admission fee is charged for entry - consider becoming a Sanctuary member if you are going to visit frequently. The visitor centre has recently been completed and there are good displays in the exhibition centre. Also note that there are after-dark tours where there is a good chance of seeing Little Spotted Kiwi.
