Description

Part of a set showing walkways in the Botanic Garden - see also Druid Hill, Lady Norwood and Magpie Lawn. Altogether they probably cover about 80% of the pathways in the Botanic Gardens.

Walk up to Carter Observatory from the steps at the southern end of the Lady Norwood rose garden, passing Henry Moore's Inner Form sculpture, or from the herb garden past remembrance bridge (route shown on the map below). You can wander round the MET office, Thomas King observatory and Carter observatory, which is the offical start/end of the Northern Walkway. If you wish you can take the Cable Car down to Lambton Quay, walk in to Kelburn, or exit at Rawhiti Terrace and take the steps down to the city as shown on the Kelburn Park route.

There are several good spots for taking photographs over Wellington city, especially the viewing platform just above the cable car. The classic postcard photo is to take a shot as the cable car is ascending towards the Skyline restaurant.

Getting there

From the top of Wellington cable car or carpark at the end of Upland Road. There are also entrances of Salamanca Road.
