Description

This is a DOC recreation reserve signpost off Whirokino Road a few kilometres south of Foxton. There are two gates (which should be closed after passing through) and the track is also usable by 4WD vehicles. The reserve is about 1 km down the track, and you can walk either down the 4WD track or along the top of the stopbank (which affords a view of the river). Flax planting is underway at the reserve, which would be a pleasant picnic or fishing spot in summer.

Getting there

Driving south from Foxton, turn left on to Whirokino Road which is immediately before the bridge over Foxton River on SH1 (this is the bridge over the river, which is a little further south than the longer bridge over the floodway). Watch for a gate on the right-hand side about 2 km east along Whirokino Road - there is a DOC sign on the gate.
