Description
The main entrance is just off Paekakariki Hill Road at the small settlement of Pauatahanui just a few metres from the Lighthouse cinema. Opposite is a nice church which is worth a look round. About 200 metres down the gravel driveway is small carpark and some information. The track begins at the end of the carpark going in two directions - left takes you about 700 metres to a bird hide, and right also goes for about 700 metres past one hide and then either to another bird hide or an exit on to Grays Road. (If you cross the road you can do the Pauatahanui North track to more bird hides.
The tracks are good, can be slightly muddy after heavy rain. There are some seats along the route. Don't expect to see too many birds.
Will eventually join the Te Ara Piko walkway right round the Pauatahanui inlet.
