Description
There is a large carpark immediately on the left as you cross the Otaki bridge (heading north) beside the quarry entrance, and from here the Highway-to-Sea walkway is signpost. It skirts the quarry, and there are numerous warning signs about avoiding heavy vehicles and rock crushing equipment. The track is always open, but best to do it after noon on Saturday or on Sunday (when no equipment is operating). There are several possible routes - the green triangles follow the top of the stopbank, but there is a wide metal road on the inland side, and rougher tracks on the river side so some variety is possible if making a return trip (watch for vehicles on the gravel road). There is a carpark near the Otaki rivermouth off Kapiti Lane at Otaki Beach.
The walkway sign says 2 hours return walk. Allow 30 - 45 minutes if cycling. You may also want to check out the Chrystalls Bend walk.
