Description

This is a mostly gentle cruise alongside the Hutt River. There is one more difficult section where the track dips down into a small gully, involving a steep climb (in both directions) and tight corners with sharp drop off the side.

At one point, just east of the small gully, the track appears to pass through the back yard of a house. Just head straight for the Hutt River Trail sign on the opposite side of the lawn and you should be OK.

Part of the track is a firm gravel path, though with a series of poorly designed sharp drains making things a little awkward. The rest of the track is dirt and/or grass, suggesting that it isn't quite finished yet (as at September 2009).

Next section of the Hutt River Trail:

Gemstone on the opposite bank

Harcourt Park to the south

California Park to the southwest across the bridge

Getting there

Western end is at the Birchville Bridge – head along the gravel driveway then veer off along the singletrack.

Eastern end is on Edmund Lomas Grove, after passing through Edmund Lomas Park.
