Description

These are well formed routes with steps in places, but can be a bit muddy in winter. Quite popular with runners. The Blue and Yellow trails lead off the main Otari Wilton Bush track that follows the stream. These are the lower tracks - the upper tracks are more interesting, include the 800 year old Rimu trees.

Starting from the back of Karori Cemetery the track descends a short distance into the bush, and there is a fork with a track leading up to Johnston Hill. Continue right over a short steep area with some steps. Along the blue trail there is a track leading left up the hill for a loop which includes the 800 year old Rimu trees. This joins back to the lower track near the bridge over the stream at the picnic area. The lower yellow route begins here, and there is also an upper yellow route. The lower yellow route joins the main track at the bridge north of the picnic area.
