Description
From Bowen Street walk through the carpark beside the government buildings and take the steps at the back of the carpark where the signpost says "Hill St". From there you follow the path with the motorway on one side and large mostly government buildings on the other side. There are several roads to cross. At Hawkestone St it pays to walk down the road a short distance to cross the other side of the motorway off-ramp (the majority of cars seem to turn right to go in to Thorndon rather than the city). Continue along was a small park on the right near Fitzherbert Terrace, under Hobson Street, and finally emerge on Thorndon Quay underneath the motorway. If you wish to do a return trip, you can join Tinakori Road about 100 metres north up Thorndon Quay. Katherine Mansfield birthplace is a short distance up Tinakori Road from this junction.
