Scottwood Wiggles

Scottwood Wiggles

Hira Forest, Nelson, New Zealand

Part of a series of trails built by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club called "The Tuckers Trails"

Intermediate - More difficult in the wet

Bike - Access only in weekend, Permit required

This track is basically in three parts. The top third is in young pine trees and is fairly open and easy riding. Sometimes a little overgrown in places, or boggy when its wet. The middle section is down through some fir trees and is shady and good riding with a few minor technical challenges. The last section can only be described as a "Root Fest" and is a real challenge when wet. There is a bypass to avoid this section if desired.

Getting there

Access is via Sharlands Road and Bobs Fern Road. From the forest entrance, about 4km up the Maitai Valley Road, ride up until you see a road to the left called Sharlands Road. Ride 5.5km up this road, making sure you DO NOT turn off at the first Bob Fern Road sign, and carry on up to the second one. Here turn left into Bobs Fern Road and ride all the way to the top. At the top you will find a big clear area and the road turns around the head of the valley and starts to head back toward town. Just past the top as you start to head back toward town, on the left you will find the entrance to the track.

Other notes

Access is only during the weekend
