Coastal route from Makara Beach to Opau Bay.

This completes the loop from the gun emplacements and Opau Bay back to Makara Beach, or provides a nice coastal walk if you don't feel like walking uphills. The track follows the coastline and is rocky and uneven - it is tough going along the pebbly shoreline so although the distance isn't great it takes a while (allow 1.5 hours, or 3 hours if you do the round trip with the gun emplacements). At high tide going around the headlands requires a little rock climbing - it isn't dangerous, but take care.

Park at Makara Beach and follow the coastal walking route.

Whilst the inland track is closed during lambing season, access is always available to the coastal track.
