Description
There is a large sign on Punjab St for Odell Reserve and Piwakawaka track. There is a tarsealed track to the reservoir at the top of the hill (gate blocks cars, but okay for bicycles). There are great views from the lookout to Wellington City and across Ngaio and Khandallah areas, and down into Ngaio gorge. It is popular spot to view fireworks on 5 November.
The track down from the reservoir to Old Porirua Road goes through trees. There are steps in places but it can be a bit muddy and slippy after rain. There are a couple of "unofficial" side tracks which will take you down to the end of cul-de-sacs in Harbour Lights.
There are a couple of seats on the way, including one just outside the back lawn of a house with a brilliant view (and no fence between their lawn and the track). A little further down is an unofficial shortcut track to Captain Edward Daniel Drive. It is well marked, short, but a little rough.
The track emerges on Old Porirua Road just a few metres above the Harbour Lights turn-off.
