Description
This track runs along the eastern boundary fence of Wellington Zoo. If you peer through the fence, you might get a glimpse of an animal or two.
There is a large flight of steps at the Melrose Park (southern) end of this track. The steps reduce the friendliness of the track from a biking perspective, though it is a useful connection between Melrose Park and Coromandel for walking and running.
A spur near the southern end, at the base of the steps, leads to the end of Melrose Crescent. Another spur near the northern end goes up a few steps to meet Manchester Road diagonally opposite the southern end of Coromandel.
Getting there
Southern end drops off the Melrose Park car park, down a set of many steps. An alternative entrance is from the end of Melrose Crescent.
Northern end has two alternatives, both on Manchester Street. One option is down a sealed driveway next to the Archibald Centre; while the other branches off up a small hill to end directly opposite the southern end of Coromandel.
Other notes
This track part of the Southern Walkway. All of the Southern Walkway, which traverses the eastern town belt from Houghton Bay to Oriental Bay, is open to bikes except for the northern-most section from Palliser Road to Oriental Bay.
