Description

This sealed cycle path runs alongside State Highway 1, providing a safe and convenient connection between Paremata and Pukerua Bay.

The path is smooth and easy, from Paremata to Airlie Road north of Plimmerton. From Airlie Road north there is a slight gradient then a few short steeper sections but nothing too strenuous.

At intersection with Airlie Road. If you want something a bit more challenging, follow Airlie Road 0.65km southwest and try Taua Tapu.

Great pathway for learners as it is sealed and away from the cars with minimal intersections. Best section for learners is Northpoint Street to Airlie Road as longest section with flat grades.

The track has been extended and the route updated to show the cycle route from railway station beside the Mana roundabout. There are underpasses below the bridge at both ends, so there is no need to cross SH1 no matter which way you approach Mana. There is now signage which will help you navigate through Plimmerton, through the railway underpass and connecting up with cycle path at the northern end of the carpark at Plimmerton Domain.

The route conveniently runs alongside the railway track, and therefore you can start walking from one end and jump back on the train at a station when you feel tired. Allow 30 - 45 minutes to cycle from Mana to Pukerua Bay. If you wish to continue along Pukerua Bay coastline to Paekakariki allow 1.5 hours to cycle the full length. You can then join up with the Kapiti Coast walkway and continue to QE II park and beyond.

Getting there

Southern end of the walking is the Mana roundabout. Can access inbetween from Ngatitoa Domain, Steyne Avenue, Plimmerton Domain, and Northpoint Street, which is part of an industrial park behind the Plimmerton weigh station on State Highway 1.

Also connections at Airlie Road and the northern end is on Teihana Road West in Pukerua Bay.

Other notes

From Plimmerton Domain head through underpass into Steyne Avenue. Proceed south down Steyne Avenue for 400 m and then turn into South Beach Road just before rail crossing. Pathway continues along the coastline to Ngatitoa Domain. Follow pathway over Pascoe Avenue in the domain past the marina. Go under the rail bridge across carpark and up onto west side of Paremata Bridge. It is legal to ride on the footpath over the bridge and then follow track to railway station.
