Description

This track more-or-less follows an historical Maori path connecting Plimmerton and Pukerua Bay.

Both ends of the track are clearly marked with large signs. The track itself mostly crosses farmland along a fenced-off corridor – just follow the blue markers. There is a section of gravel road and then sealed road at the southern end.

Parts of the track are steep, making for a demanding climb if approached from the north or a fun descent from the south. In particular, near the northern end the track heads straight up a ridgeline at a gradient of 25%. The climb is worthwhile, as the views over the surrounding farmland and towards Porirua Harbour are spectacular.

Getting there

Northern end is on Airlie Road, 0.65km southwest of the Whenua Tapu Cemetary off State Highway 1 (and 0.1km past a wooden truss bridge over the railway lines).

Southern end is at the end of The Track (a sealed road up the hill from Plimmerton).

Length

1.58km
