Keith George reserve

Keith George reserve

Hutt Valley, Wellington, New Zealand

Slightly unkept bush reserve well hidden near SH2

Bike and Foot

Cycling is allowed on the main track, but side routes includes Pole and Step tracks and the track to Haywards Falls is suitable only for walkers. From the carpark on SH2 where the Upper Hutt information sign is located, there are track leading off slightly north and south of the sign. There are a couple of routes that can be followed. There isn't a map, but the handwritten signage is fine and the main track is well marked.

The upper Pine Trails track is a little rougher but there are views in some spots. There is a loop track at the northern end. The Zig Zag track comes with a warning about washouts - it is very rough in the middle going down a stream bed. About half way down the Zig Zag track there is a dead-end track to the left - the main track continues downhill.

Good views from the Pole track over the Silverstream golf course.

The track to Haywards Falls crosses the stream multiple times (10 or more) and you are likely to get wet feet if you don't have gumboots. Beyond Haywards Falls there is a warning sign that it should be attempted by experienced trampers only. This track eventually emerges on to Haywards Hill Road near a bend (no car parking in the vicinity).

Haywards Falls

Getting there

Park by the Upper Hutt information sign off SH2 slightly north of the Silverstream bridge. There are other entrances that emerge on to SH2, but it isn't suitable to stop a car nearby.
