Gold Creek Family Loop

Gold Creek Family Loop

Canaan and Rameka, Nelson, New Zealand

This is an intermediate grade family friendly loop through some stunning stunted beach forest. There is a shallow ford that may require you to get your feet wet, but other than that its a great little track and fun for all levels of rider grade 2+ up.

IntermediateAn easy intermediate track

The Abel Tasman National Park encompasses this area, and the surroundings are picturesque and stunning with awesom veiws, native bush, caves and sink holes. If making the venture this far in, its well worth the short walk down to Harwoods Hole. From Harwoods Hole Carpark, go through the gate at the southern end of the carpark, closest to where the road comes in. Ride up the track to the left to do the loop clockwise. The ride starts with a climb up through farmland, and then across a farm track at the top and around to enter the beach forest on the right. At this point there is a creek crossing to do. from here its a nice gently climb up through the beach to farmland at the top. a short blast across the farm track brings you to some more beach and a fun blast back down to the carpark.

Getting there

Drive to the top of the Takaka Hill road, looking for a road off to the north and signage for Canaan Road, and Harwoods Hole. Follow this 11km gravel road to its very end where you will find a carpark with toilets. This is the start of the loop. This is also the start of the Rameka Track, and its a good ride to ride the loop, then do the Rameka. This does require organising a pickup and return at the bottom.
