Description
From the large Hunua Falls carpark (which includes picnic facilities and toilets) there is a short loop walk to the Hunua Falls (800 metres, 20 minutes return). There is also a popular 3 hour (5 km) return walk to Cosseys Dam. Cross the new wooden bridge and head up to the signpost about 250 metres from the bridge. The Cossey Gorge track (left) is the gentler and more scenic route, and shorter route up to the reservoir. It is also possible to drive and park near the reservoir, and there are also toilet facilities at this end. The Cossey Gorge track does have a couple of stream crossings, but this is not a problem during dry weather.
The Massey track climbs up through the bush (to about 360 metres) and goes past a small Kauri grove. There are views of the dam on the descent. The longer Wairoa reservoir track forks off the Massey track and is an alternative option for a longer walk (classified as a tramping track).

Getting there
From Auckland take the Papakura motorway exit and follow Hunua Road (about 14 km). Falls Road is just north of the Hunua township, and leads to the large carpark near Hunua Falls.
