Description
Immediately north of the suspension footbridge is Harcourt Park, which includes a motorcamp and signage pointing out the earthquake escarpments. There are a couple of alternative paths through the park, both of which meet Akatarawa Road by the sub-station.
You can head north along Akatarawa Road or, as shown on the map, turn left into Pokaka Street then across Hoggard Park to find an obscure piece of single track. This section of track rumbles along next to the river, behind several houses, before rejoining Akatarawa Road. There's a pair of tight and steep switchbacks along the way, just to provide a bit of interest.
Just before this section of track ends, there is a rotunda shelter 0.1km south of the Birchville Bridge.
Next section of the Hutt River Trail:
Maoribank to the south
Gemstone or Edmund Lomas Park to the northeast
California Park on the opposite bank
Awakairangi Park on the opposite bank and to the south
Getting there
Southern end is at the Maoribank footbridge.
Northern end is at the Birchville Bridge.
Length
2.14km
