Description

If walking this route from Whareroa Farm allow 2 - 3 hours for the round trip. The road segment will be much quicker on a bicycle. The road is fairly quiet, but is narrow and gravel in places and the occasional traffic is likely to be a large 4WD vehicle so care is required.

The track begins on Campbell's Mill Road at the exit from Whareroa Farm. If you have cycled up this is pretty much the highest spot (there is another small uphill section on Mangakotukutuku Valley Road from Campbell's Mill Road to the pine trees, then it is all downhill). The track is a wide 4WD road, with a gate as you reach Mangakotukutuku Valley Road. It is then tarsealed down to Waterfall Road, but there is a section of gravel road on Waterfall Road until it joins Emerald Glen Road.

At the last section on Emerald Glen Road (S 40d 57' 49.06", E 174d 59' 23.40") a wide cycle/walking/horse track begins alongside Emerald Glen Road and continues back to the Whareroa carpark.
