Description

This is a 30 minute loop walk through forest on the lower slopes on the West Coast side of Arthur's Pass. Finding the entrance is the hardest part. The gravel driveway has no signpost, but leaves immediately after Kellys stream bridge. At the end of the driveway is a parking area and DoC signs to longer tramps, and the Cockayne loop walk. From the carpark this goes up through the forest and re-emerges near the road beside Kellys bridge. There is a well marked shortcut back to the carpark.

It is also worth checking out the river near the carpark.

Getting there

Off Highway 73 about 20 km west of Arthurs Pass. Look for Kellys Bridge, and take the gravel track to the left immediately you cross the one lane bridge.
