Northern hills bush walk in Karori Sanctuary

Despite the name there are not many views of the Karori Sanctuary reservoir valley from the track. The Valley View track is signposted left off the main track not far from the visitor centre. It climbs gradually up the hill along a wide track through the bush and pine trees. There are some seats and picnic tables along the way. There are several track leading off up to the fenceline, but the Valley View route continues back down to join the upper dam beside the track that goes round the dam.

You can also take the Morning Star track up from the main track to join with Valley View. This track is a little way past the bird sounds area, and is also the track to the old Goldmine (which is usually open for visitors at weekends).

The Union Mine track leads down past the Tuatara fenced off area, and joins in to the main track again near Tui Terrace lawn.

The sign says allow 1 hour, but most will probably complete the track from the visitor centre to the dam in around 40 - 45 minutes. Return via the main Karori Reservoir route or the Union Mine track.

An entrance fee is required to enter Karori Sanctuary, and the centre is open from 10 am - 5 pm (gates are locked at 5 pm so make sure you exit in time).
