Description:
Many people park at the end of Makara Road and head along the Makara Coastal Track, however there is a short circuit you can do from the car park to the river mouth, and then following the river upstream. At the end of Estuary Road there is short track along the river shore to a couple of boat sheds. Head back to the car park via Estuary Road, past the cafe and public toilets.
Getting there:
From Karori, follow Makara Road to Makara Beach and park in the pebbly car park beside the sea.
Other notes:
It's great here on a fine day, but in bad weather the wind can be so strong it is difficult to get out of the car!
