Location: Tawa, Wellington, New Zealand
Overview:
Uphill bush walk beside stream to Colonial Knob
Grade: Intermediate
Access: Foot
Description:
Whilst cyclists may start the climb to Colonial Knob further along Rahia Street, most walkers will park in the carpark beside the Elsdon camp (look out for Jelly and Rhubarb, the Donkeys!) and walk up through the bush. The track has recently been upgraded and is wide with gravel base most of the way. There are good wooden steps and bridge. However, it is a steep climb (about 250 metres) so take your time.
As you emerge from the bush and join the 4WD track to Colonial Knob you can either turn right and continue to the top, or return down to Rahia Street and back to the Elsdon Camp carpark.
Getting there:
There is a large carpark beside the Elsdon camp on Rahia Street. There is a map and other information at the start of the walk here (but there are no toilets).
Length: 1.71km
Conditions: Double track
Altitude:
291m
14m
78m
355m
