Location: McLeans Island, Christchurch, New Zealand

Overview:
Extend your McLeans Island ride with this new 5km section of singletrack

Grade: Beginner

Access: Bike

Description:
Opened in August '09 this is a new track through new pine plantings. Like the 10km track, this is fast and winding with well bermed corners and trees, plus has the added advantage of several lumps (for jumping?) and a fun zig-zag section between sand piles.

Getting there:
Entrance and exit is about 8.5km from the start of the 10km loop. You come out of the forest into a new planting area, past the rock garden, then emerge at the waterhole before plunging back into the forest. Hang left instead of right and follow the track into the trees and then out into the open again. It will curve around (anti-clockwise) and you will exit at the waterhole again. This time, hang right to get back onto the track and home again.

Other notes:
There are some 'jumps' (lumps) but it's not a BMX track, and they are easily ridden over while seated, or put in a bit of power and get a bit of air if you still have strength in them at this point.

Length: 5.00km

Conditions: Single track
