Location: Makara Peak, Wellington, New Zealand
Overview:
Steep and rocky descent from the summit of Makara Peak.
Grade: Advanced
Access: Bike and Foot
Description:
This is one of the more difficult tracks in the Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park.
It starts with a rolling piece of singletrack along a ridgeline. It then weaves its way down a series of steep sections with some tight corners, plus a couple of sweeping corners thrown in for fun.
There are spectacular views over Karori and the harbour beyond. However, if you want to admire the views then stop off the track to do so, as the track requires full concentration.
Some of the more difficult drops and steps have easier alternative lines, though not all of them do. There is plenty of exposed rock along the way, which is challenging when dry and tricky when wet.
After dropping down a set of steep, tight switchbacks, the track ends abruptly at an intersection with Allington Connector. Directly opposite is the start of Ridgeline Extension.
