Also known as: Technical Torture Trail
Location: Makara Peak, Wellington, New Zealand
Overview:
A technical track with man-made obstacles and natural hazards make this a good challenge to ride in either direction.
Grade: Expert
Access: Bike and Foot
Description:
This is a technically challenging track with many man-made and natural obstacles. The types of features you'll encounter include:
a see-saw (incomplete as of late 2009)
a swing bridge, which sways disconcertingly but is thankfully only just clear of the ground
tight switchbacks – including a wooden ramp called "The Twister"
drops and steps
steep slopes, in both directions
a deep channel called "The Squeeze"
a rock garden
and an especially cool bridge known as "The Skink", whose skin consists of old bike tyres.
The track is two-way, though it is somewhat more difficult when climbing up from the Vertigo end.
Getting there:
The top is on Snake Charmer next to the top of Trickle Falls and North Face, just a bit down from the summit of Makara Peak.
The bottom is next to the intersection of Varley's and Vertigo.
Other notes:
See the T3 Blog for details of the build process.
