Overview:
Stream track through Trelissick Park in Ngaio
Grade: Easy
Access: Foot
Description:
The beginning of this track is part of the Northern Walkway. Starting from the entrance on Waikowhai Street near Crofton Downs railway station, the track descends to Wightwicks Field. From here the northern walkway route goes up (see Wightwicks Field) - instead take the smaller track left which follows Kaiwharawhara stream. This is a lovely walk. The track is newer than the Northern walkway route, but joins up beside the bridge leading up to Wadestown. If you are doing the Northern Walkway I recommend the stream track instead.
The track has good bridges, and new areas of planting along the route. There are some grassy areas suitable for picnics. There is a short steep sidetrack to view the fish ladder. Near the end of the track are historic powder magazines, and some tunnels (locked grating) leading into the hills. There may be some mud in places, but overall the track is an easy walk.

Crofton Downs railway station is near the Trelissick Park entrance. Kaiwharawhara railway station near the Ngaio Gorge end.
