Location: Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand
Overview:
Coastal walk to a prominent green knob south of Porirua
Grade: Easy
Access: Foot
Description:
This is a popular walk for anglers and picnickers. From the carpark near the water treatment plant (ie sewarage works!) head up the track between the concrete blocks and after 20 - 30 metres take a small track on the right leading towards the beach. There is a narrow but well formed track that descends down to the shore.
The track to Green Point leads around the coast. It isn't far but requires some clambering over rocks. At high tide there are a couple of headlands that aren't usually any trouble to go round, but can be clambered over if necessary (there are well marked routes up and over).
Green point is a good spot for picnics, with a good view of Mana Island. Allow about 40 minutes for the walk.
Getting there:
Turn off Titahi Bay road on to Te Pene Av, 2nd left up Te Puke St, and then 3rd left on to Pikarere St. Follow this round, and take Moki St on the right near the end of the road (becomes a private road about 0.5 km further on). 200 m down Moki St there is a gate which is open during daylight hours. You can drive 700 metres down the road and park opposite the water treatment plant. The gates do close at sunset so if you may be late, park at the top of Moki St and walk down.
Other notes:
Dogs are prohibited (Sheep measles area).
