Location: Karori Park, Wellington, New Zealand

Overview:
A short connector between Skyline and Karori Park Loop.

Grade: Intermediate

Access: Bike and Foot

Description:
A short, steep track through mature pine forest from Skyline to the back of the Karori Park Loop track.

The combination of steep hills, mature pine trees, and typical Wellington greywacke rock makes this area particularly prone to slips and tree falls. In August 2008 two large trees fell during a storm, blocking the track and making a large hole in the bank above the track. One tree was cleared and a bypass emerged around the other's stump – eventually becoming a ridable chicane.

Getting there:
This track is often ridden as part of a circuit to/from the Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park.

Other notes:
The track has existed for many years, but was closed due to damage inflicted during the Wahine storm of 1968 – hence the name. It was reopened in 2003 following restoration work by the Makara Peak supporters.

The track is popular with a variety of uers, which occasionally leads to conflict. In early 2009 the WCC placed a sign at the point where Wahine deviates from the Straight and Narrow which says something like: "This is a multi-purpose track used by walkers, runners and mountain bikers. For safety reasons, please do not place branches across the track".
