Stewart Island
The third largest island, lying south of New Zealand. This area is becoming increasingly popular with those who enjoy the outdoors - a great place for hiking and tramping, either day walks for multi-day tramps round the island. Leave the mountain bike at home - there are is a few kilometres of road (and you can hire a bike on the island to do these) but you'll get most enjoyment out of your tramping boots.
