Description

Recently we've been testing various features using the live website - such as YouTube Videos in a map InfoWindow, Street View, elevation charts, putting altitude data in kml files, etc. Using the live site for this testing isn't ideal - it would be better to have a playpen where these things could be tested without potentially messing up live pages.

So, I wonder if a simple test environment could be created by having a Region that is hidden except when a user is logged in to the site. We could then create areas and tracks within that test region to try various things, without messing up the publically visible site.

Such a play pen would also provide new content creators with an opportunity to practice with creating/editing content without fear of breaking a live page.

Good idea. I will create an entirely separate website that can be a staging environment (mostly live now http://stage.tracks.org.nz). This will be almost like production and will use the production data. I will put a banner across the top so you get regular reminders that this is not production...

Before I do a prod release I will copy the prod data across to stage.tracks.org.nz. This will also give me a nice release test area too.
